This Film Exposes The Hypocrisy Of Judging Cosmetically
Sara Benincasa’s ‘The Focus Group’ is a satire we all must watch.
Warning: Spoilers; film NSFW.
It was a Monday morning and I was lamenting for the weekend to continue. Pajama and bed-ridden, I continued my weekend by doing nothing but reading.
A week or so before that, I encountered Sara Benincasa’s work for the first time and read a few of her pieces, to my enjoyment. When I Googled her, finding that she had an eclectic catalog of comedic work ranging from books and essays to chillin’ with Donald Glover in a bathtub. I also found her short film — The Focus Group — and saw this Medium piece of her featuring it. With it being less than ten minutes long, I bookmarked it so I can watch it later. And this Monday morning I finally got to watch it.
Riddled with resonant stabs (i.e. don’t trust peeps with AOL emails; you’re homeless if you’re from New Jersey), the message of the film is something that we all need to grasp.
