I largely agree with this. It probably depends on your situation.

If you’re a musician who already has a large and forgiving following — say the Red Hot Chili Peppers — fans like me will always listen no matter how long it takes for them to make a record.

Unfortunately I cannot say the same for new artists.

Yes there are early adopters out there (Bandcamp and SoundCloud daily users) who listen to everything new from new artists, but that number is small at best and doesn’t help the artist in the long run.

It sounds like nowadays the best thing a new artist can do is create a lot of great content over time while honing lasting relationships with their fans. It can’t happen overnight as much as it can happen over five albums (at least, including with the Chilis. They didn’t become “huge” until their fifth or sixth record, BSSM.)
